Opal B. Moen, 62, Frazee, MN, died on Monday, May 8, 2017, at Sanford Health, Fargo, ND, with family by her side.
Opal Blanche Gunderson was born July 27, 1954, in Sharon, ND, to Gordon and Connie (Hanson) Gunderson and on that day, another precious gem – Opal – was added to the Gunderson family. She graduated high school from Central Cass, Casselton, ND, and went on to pursue hair dressing at Mr. Don’s in Fargo, ND. After a number of years at Regis Salon, she became manager of the VFW in Casselton, ND. Opal met and started dating the love of her life, Tracy Moen, on December 9, 1983, and the two were soon engaged. They became married on March 10, 1984, and they lived in Hunter, ND, while owning and operating Moen’s Gasoline Alley from 1985 to 1991. In August of 1997, Tracy, Opal and their two sons moved to Rochert, MN, where they lived on Cotton Lake. Opal started working at Lakeshirts in Detroit Lakes, MN, and in 2009 took a managerial position at Murphy USA, Detroit Lakes. Tracy and Opal moved to Frazee, MN, in 2009 where they made their home.
As a precious Opal displays a “play-of-color,” unique to its own, Opal, herself, drew those she met close and left a lasting impression with a warm personality the reflected onto others. She loved being a wife and mother but beamed with joy as a grandmother to two grandsons. Her love for family and friends was vibrant and her kind heart was shown to all those in her presence.
Opal is survived by her two sons, Brent (Megan) with grandsons Brock and Rhett, Glyndon, MN, and Bryce, Frazee; siblings, Cleary (Colleen), Groveport, OH, Ruby (Carson) Longtine, Lake Park, MN, Elwood (Mary Lou), Casselton, Roger (Denise), Fargo, Lowell (Laura), Inver Grove Heights, MN, Gary (Audrey), Casselton; along with several nieces and nephews – as well as great-nieces and nephews.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents, husband and precious infant twins.
