Albert Adam Ruckelshausen
Albert Adam Ruckelshausen, age 103, was born August 22, 1913, in Genoa, CO, to Adam and Mary (Gilomen) Ruckelshausen. At a young age, he moved from Genoa to live on the Ruckelshausen farm north of Brewster. He attended country school through 8th grade. He helped his dad farm until he got married. On October 7, 1935, Albert married Marguerite Catherine (McNab) in Jackson, MN. They farmed the Adam Ruckelshausen home place until 1943, when they bought a farm south of Brewster, where they lived until 2005 and then moved to the Meadows in Worthington. Albert and Marguerite spent 34 winters in their home in Cordes Lakes, AZ. He was a very active member of the Farmers Union and also served on the school board of District #45. For many years he served on the Brewster Farmers Elevator board and continued on the board of Consolidated Coop. They both were active members of Brewster Senior Citizens and the Brewster Humdinger Band. Albert fed a lot of cattle, sheep and hogs during his farming career. He enjoyed golfing in Arizona, loved to play pool, and card games. Albert also loved to sing and sang for many occasions, solos, and in numerous choirs. He sang for his 103rd birthday party in 2016. He was very active in the many activities at the Meadows. Albert died on Monday, May 15, 2017, at his residence in Worthington, MN.
Albert is survived by two children, Robert (Janice) Ruckelshausen of Sioux Falls, SD and Darlene Kleine of Carson City, NV; seven grandchildren, Daniel (Karen) Ruckelshausen, Sara (Paul) DeSmith, Teresa Ruckelshausen, Laura (Mark) Deverse, Susan Dahl (Ron Headley), Robin (John) Eich, and Brenda (Marc) Hatch. Also surviving are eight great grandchildren, Jason (Rachel Christopherson) Ruckelshausen, Ashley (Shane) Myers, Alex DeSmith, Aaron Brinkhous, Caitlin (Miguel) Casteneda, Nicholas Headley, Sam (Casey) Eich, and Lily Hatch; eight great great grandchildren, Erika, Lauren, and Gretchen Christopherson-Ruckelshausen, Hannah Haase, Elexiss Myers, Cristian, Yonathan, and Jenavive Casteneda; sister-in-law, Dolly McNab, and special friend, Lavonne Jonas. He was preceded in death by his wife Marguerite; parents; two infant sons, Douglas and David; two sisters, Louise Cork and Helen Zinnel, and one brother, Carl.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at 10:30 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church in Brewster, MN, with Pastor Robert Bartlett officiating. Burial will be in the Hersey Cemetery near Brewster.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 19, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington, MN.
