REVEREND ROYAL BECKER STEINER March 4, 1920 – Jan. 4, 2013 Royal Becker Steiner was born March 4, 1920, in Allen County, IN, the only child of Abraham and Anna (Becker) Steiner. While an infant, his family moved to Ft. Wayne, Indiana, where he was raised. Upon graduation from high school Royal enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served as a Staff Sergeant in WWII. Upon his return from Egypt, he enrolled in Ft. Wayne Bible College where he met and married Nelva Merle Reinders on August 30, 1946. He graduated from Taylor University with his BA in Fine Arts in 1950, and earned a Masters of Divinity from Dubuque Theological Seminary in 1953. He entered the ministry in the Methodist denomination and together he and Nelva raised three children, David, Susan (Nash), and Kathryn (Munson), while he served in 12 churches in Iowa and Minnesota over four decades, most recently Wadena, Breckenridge, Foxhome, Long Prairie, Grey Eagle and Buffalo Lake. Upon his retirement he initially settled in Long Prairie, and in 2006 he moved to Menahga, living in Woodside Manor where he was known as everybody’s Chaplain. He was Vice President of the Volunteers at Woodside Manor/Green Pine Acres. He coordinated the Thursday evening movie night and continued to serve as a guest preacher and storyteller until his death.
